I had Frame Maker 7.2 on my windows XP machine, which had its own Distiller 7. Later I installed Acrobat Pro 9, which made me to uninstall Frame Maker's Distiller 7 and installed Acrobat Pro's Distiller 9. Both Frame Maker and Acrobat Pro were working fine.
Acrobat distiller 11.0.0463 crashes after just few seconds of launch Acrobat is working fine. I am on Windows 8.1. Photoshop CC (x32,x64) & Premiere Pro installed. Searched the forums but got no definite answer. Run Process Monitor to capture a log file (make sure to set it up to monitor 'acrodist.exe') and then launch Distiller. Suddenly the Acrobat Distiller 9 started giving problem. I couldn't print a PDF from Frame Maker. I tried opening the Acrobat distiller from the Start menu. It opens and just closes, but doesn't stay for long.

I uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9 and installed Frame Maker's Distiller 7, and then it worked fine. But the problem started again when I again installed the Acrobat Pro 9.

What should I do to overcome this problem? Is there any way where I can keep Frame Maker's Distiller being overwritten by Acrobat Pro's Distiller?

The messages.log file could include information (for example, PostScript errors) that you can use to troubleshoot the problem. If the file lists a PostScript error, troubleshoot the error according to Troubleshoot PostScript errors. To locate the messages.log file on your system, do the following:
On Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the location of the messages.log file is on the hard drive in: Documents and Settings[user profile]Application DataAdobeAcrobatDistiller [version number].
On Windows Vista, the location of the messages.log file is on the hard drive inside: Users[user profile]AppDataRoamingAdobeAcrobatDistiller [version number].
Important:There is an alternative route that you can use to produce a PDF file. If you have the Adobe PDF Creation Add-On or Acrobat Distiller installed, you can convert documents to PDF using a two-step process. First, convert the FrameMaker document into a PostScript file and then manually add the PostScript file to Acrobat Distiller which converts the PostScript file into a PDF.
To create a PDF using the two-step process, do the following:
- Choose File > Print.
- In print dialog box, enable the Print to File option.
- To the right of the Print to File check mark box, click Browse.
- To the right of the 'Look in' field (at the top of the 'Browse' window), click the Down Arrow and choose Desktop.
- Click OK.
- In the print dialog box, click Print.
- Close the program when the file is done being produced.
The procedure above results in a PostScript file. Follow the next two steps to convert the PostScript file (.ps) to a PDF.

- Right-click the PostScript file created on the desktop and choose 'Convert to Adobe PDF' in the context menu.
- Click Save in the Save PDF File As dialog box to complete process.
